The Pontic Foundation of Australia "Panagia Soumela" was established to assist communities in their time of need.

Who we are

In 1996, one of the Foundation's benefactors laid his eyes on Flagpole Hill and its surrounding area  and purchased the land, then donating it to the Foundation.

Since then the Foundation has hosted a number of working bees and visits bringing a number of visitors to the small community to appreciate the beauty of the area.

In 2009, after the area was ravaged by the 2009 Victorian Bushfire, the area was left devastated. What was worst, 173 people perished and many more were left having lost their familes and homes.

The Foundation has since then been working tirelessly to establish a memorial in their honour and hopes to make Flagpole Hill live up to its historical reputation once again as a beacon of hope for the community.
